What we do.

Novabiosis, Inc. works directly with regulated US Organ Procurement Organizations (OPO’s) to facilitate the placement of whole non-transplantable organs and tissues for research.
Through our network of OPO’s, we can supply most non-transplantable organs and tissues for research, including: liver, lung, intestine, pancreas, kidney, spleen, brain, eye, birthing tissues, and full-thickness skin.

Another aspect of our business is the isolation and cryopreservation of high-quality human primary cells. With direct access to non-transplantable human organs through our OPO network; we can be very selective on the quality of organs we use for our primary cell isolations. Working directly with one of our OPO partners, with an isolation lab directly across the hall from their recovery suites, we can isolate cells immediately upon organ recovery, thus minimizing logistical challenges that can greatly impact cell isolation quality and yield.

Human primary cells offered by Novabiosis, Inc include cells from the: Liver, Lung, Kidney, and Intestine. Our key products include Hepatocytes, Kupffer, and Stellate cells from the Liver; Glomerular Endothelial Cells, Proximal Tubules, and Podocytes from the Kidney; Myofibroblasts from the Intestine; Fibroblasts and Epithelial cells from the Lung. In addition to our off-the-shelf products, Novabiosis offers unmatched custom isolation options through our internal experts or external partners like Zen-Bio.

In Q3 of 2023, Novabiosis will also offer animal primary hepatocytes, including dog, primate, and a variety of rodent strains.

  • Liver Cryo Suspension Hepatocytes – Isolated from whole human livers that are not suitable for liver transplantation. The cell composition consists of a homogenous population of hepatocytes which are characterized by viability, morphology, plating efficiency and the following enzyme panel: CYP1A2, CYP2A6, CYP2B6, CYP2C8, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP2E1, CYP3A4 (midazolam), CYP3A4 (testosterone), GEN, SULT, UGT, and AO.
  • Kidney Cortical Cells UMIX – Isolated from the kidney cortex after removal of the kidney capsule and medulla.
  • Intestinal Epithelial Cells Ascending Colon – Isolated from human adult ascending colon. The cell composition consists of a homogenous population of intestinal cells and are characterized by viability, morphology, plating efficiency along with cell characterization by staining for CK8 and CK18. In addition, each lot will be tested for its ability to maintain function for a minimum period of 5-7 days and will be reported on the quality control report delivered with each vial.
  • Lung Bronchial Epithelial Cells UMIX – Isolated from the bronchus at the bifurcation point to the fourth generation of bronchi. The cell composition consists of undifferentiated ciliated, non-ciliated, goblet, and basal cells. Proliferating NhBE-P0 cells have been characterized and Air/Liquid Interface culture (ALI) validated by immunofluorescence using protein markers for Cilia (acetylated tubulin), mucin (MUC5AC), tight junctions (Zonula Occludens-1), and basal cells (cytokeratin-5). The NhBE-P0 cells are guaranteed to have minimum population doublings of at least 20 (from P0 to P2) following the instructions and conditions provided by Novabiosis.
